Capt. Joe Macfarlane has been fishing the Gulf of Mexico since he was old enough to hold a rod. His father was a well known local captain who taught Joe how to fish. As he grew up the bug caught on and he began to enjoy the offshore fishing. At 18 he received his Deck Officer's license and began "On A Claim Charters". After fishing on a 29 foot boat for three years, he purchased a new Sabalo 32' in November of 2005 and christened "Pura Vida". Since the iinception of Pura Vida, charters have been able to run past the competition and fish farther and with more comfort.

Capt. Greg Macfarlane grew up next to his older brother Capt. Joe and father Capt. Joe Sr. Since the conception of On A Claim Charters, Greg has worked side by side as Capt. Joe's most knowledgeable mate. Greg has a vast knowledge of the Gulf of Mexico and the inshore waters of the inter coastal. He has practiced the know-how of a charter fishing mate for the last three years working with Capt. Joe. Capt. Greg took on the Pura Vida as the primary captain for fishing and commercial operations in the spring of 2008. Since his promotion, Capt. Greg has proven his ability to find fish amazingly well.
